Five things that make a wedding unique

(from a photographer's point of view)

Weddings are such a fun time in a couple's life! And as a photographer, I am so honored to be able to go along for the ride! After being to countless weddings, here are my top 5 favorite things that Chelsea and Tim McCarthy did on their big day that made their wedding so unique!

1. Having a first look

Whether or not a couple chooses to do a first look on their wedding day is an entirely personal decision. In this case, Chelsea and Tim decided to do a first look, but not just anywhere! They choose to have their first look at the same altar their ceremony would later take place at! It was such a unique way to use their beautiful ceremony space! As a photographer, I LOVE that the couple enjoyed their ceremony space so much they wanted to capture it in multiple ways!

2. Writing personal letters for each other to read before the ceremony

Some people like to write their vows, while others choose to use something more traditional. Chelsea and Tim decided to use more conventional vows during their wedding ceremony, but they gave each other handwritten notes to read separately before their first look! I loved this idea because, as a photographer, we can capture genuine emotion and create unique sentimental pieces the couple can enjoy for years to come.

3. Embracing the rain instead of fighting against it

They say it’s good luck when it rains on your wedding day! While some people dread bad weather, Chelsea and Tim embraced the rain! By enjoying something they could not control instead of stressing, they had a chance to make more memories together and received dreamy and romantic photos showcasing their “go with the flow” attitude.

I love traditional wedding pieces, but I love when couples take things and make them their own even more! Chelsea and her dad remixed their father/daughter moment by sharing a fun, choreographed dance! This was so fun for the guests to be a part of and left Chelsea and her dad with another unique moment they could talk about for the rest of their lives!

5. Using their wedding photographer for their engagement photos as well

Only some people choose to get engagement photos, let alone use the same photographer for their engagement and wedding! I think using the same photographer for engagement and wedding photos allows a couple to have a “practice run” with their photographer! It breaks the ice and helps couples know what to expect on their big day! Plus, this allows for more genuine and relaxed photos because you have already made a connection with me, and you have already done a lot of the poses before!

I am so thankful that Chelsea and Tim choose to use me for each of these milestones, and I cannot wait to continue celebrating life's greatest moments with them!

Weddings are so unique, but I encourage you to make decisions that make YOU and your new plus one happy! You deserve a day that is just as special as you are, and that showcases your unique love for each other.
